While the Airflow is still a concept car rather than a real production model, it shows Chrysler’s desire to take on well-established EV competitors like Tesla and Ford. Chrysler Airflow Concept Electric Powertrain and Battery Technology

The Airflow Concept vehicle has twin 150 kW electric motors churning out 402 horsepower through an all-wheel-drive system. It’s designed to deliver incredible handling and power, giving you a smooth, immediate response whether you’re merging onto the I-80 or zipping through Auburn city traffic.

A huge 100 kWh battery pack is expected to provide it 400 miles of range on a single charge. This is a lot of range for an electric SUV, perfect for that jaunt over to Bicentennial Park. For better handling and stability, the battery is positioned low in the chassis, keeping the center of gravity low, meaning it can handle the twists and turns of Highway 49 with ease. Additionally, a thermal management technology prolongs the battery’s life by keeping it cool throughout extended charging sessions.

Chrysler Airflow Concept Charging Capabilities

Chrysler plans for the Airflow to support DC fast charging up to 150 kW, comparable to other premium EVs. That would allow a 20% to 80% recharge in about 25 to 30 minutes—just enough time for a quick lunch break midjourney before getting back on the road with plenty of power.

For at-home charging, it’s likely you’d use a Level 2 charger with a 240V outlet, enabling you to plug in overnight and wake up to a fully charged battery that’s ready for the day ahead.

Chrysler Airflow Concept Charging Infrastructure and Compatibility

It’s anticipated that the Airflow will work seamlessly with virtually every major charging network across the country, such as Electrify America, ChargePoint, or EVgo. Using a standard CCS connector for DC fast charging and J1772 for Level 2 AC charging, this concept car aims for broad compatibility, meaning you never have to hunt for the right type of plug or worry about network restrictions.

Planned features, such as plug-and-charge capability and app-based monitoring, would make the charging process exceptionally user-friendly. Similar to how the Chevrolet Blazer EV uses 5G connectivity and smartphone integration for remote monitoring, future Airflow owners can expect data on real-time station availability, pricing, and charging session management from anywhere. No more arriving at a charging station only to find it broken or occupied.

Chrysler Airflow Concept Energy Efficiency and Range Optimization

Efficiency is central to the Airflow’s design, with Chrysler prioritizing aerodynamics and intelligent power management to maximize every electron. It’s expected that a regenerative braking system will capture energy during deceleration and downhill driving, feeding power back to the battery pack and extending range. Plus, multiple drive modes will allow drivers to prioritize maximum efficiency for daily commuting or performance when merging and passing.

As a result, it’s expected that the range of this future Chrysler car will compete directly with premium electric SUVs in its class. With its estimated 400-mile range, the Airflow will outperform key rivals such as Tesla’s Model Y (maxing out around 330 miles), Ford’s Mustang Mach-E (up to 300 miles), and the Chevrolet Blazer EV (283 miles). This extra range matters for families taking weekend trips to Folsom Lake State Recreation Area or daily Auburn commuters tackling I-80 or Highway 49.
